Monsoon Architecture Festival 2025 at Kochi
Kochi: The Monsoon Architecture Festival 2025 organized by the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Cochin Centre, will take place on March 28th and 29th at the Grand Hyatt, Kochi, Kerala. N S K Umesh IAS, District Collector, Ernakulam inaugurated the Festival. It marks the ten year anniversary of the Living Monsoon initiative that first began in 2015. This biennial international conference is a part of a series of events organised under Living Monsoon that celebrates architecture, urbanism, art, craft, and culture specific to monsoon climatic regions worldwide. It aims to foster a global dialogue among architects from tropical monsoon and rainforest regions, including the Indian Ocean belt, Southeast Asia, parts of Africa, and South America.
In light of Kerala’s current climate challenges, this event serves as a platform for regional architects to engage with the global community, exchange ideas, and discuss sustainable design solutions. A major highlight of Living Monsoon is the Monsoon Architecture Awards, which in its third edition, has attracted over 200 entries of built projects from around the world. From this, 17 award nominees have been shortlisted, who will be presenting their projects in live juries under three categories. These awards bring together Kerala’s architectural contributions on a global stage with its contemporaries while encouraging the development of high-quality regional work. The Monsoon Architecture Festival is a celebratory culmination of the various design talk series and awards hosted by Living Monsoon over the past few years.
This year marks its tenth anniversary and is envisioned as a larger two-day event. It will feature seven new international guest speakers and eighteen past speakers as visiting us invited international delegates. On this occasion, the Living Monsoon team is launching their publication titled - ‘Living Monsoon- A Memory Excursion through a Decade of Monsoon Architecture’. This publication is a repository of ideas and is open to the public to pre-book now . This year MAF expects to host approximately 450-600 architects from India and abroad.
